The Story

The origins of frikadellen, or frikandellen as they are known in the Netherlands, are somewhat unclear. However, it is believed that this beloved snack was first created in the Netherlands in the 1950s. Some sources suggest that the frikandellen was inspired by a German dish called the Bockwurst, which is a type of sausage that is made from finely ground pork and beef. Over time, the recipe for the frikandellen evolved, and it is now made using a variety of meats, including chicken and horse meat. Today, frikadellen are a staple snack in Dutch cuisine, and they are enjoyed by people of all ages throughout the country.
